Turn the percentage into its fraction, then divide.

Example 37.5% of 240

3/8 × 240 = 90

Example 83.33% of 96

5/6 × 96 = 80

Example 12.5% of 640

640 ÷ 8 = 80

Profit and loss

A 25% profit means selling price = 5/4 of cost price; a 20% loss means selling price = 4/5 of cost price. Thinking in fractions avoids long multiplication.
